“At a time when most Americans can barely afford a vacation that doesn’t involve pitching a tent in their backyard, President Obama isn’t doing himself any public relations favors by choosing to vacation in one of the country’s most exclusive and expensive destinations,” onetime White House Deputy press secretary Scott Stanzel said in POLITICO’s Arena.
“Presidents should leave Washington, D.C., and experience the reality of the rest of the country,” Stanzel went on. “Images matter, however. Given the dire economic circumstances and his leadership failures, President Obama should downgrade his vacation plans to match the depreciated U.S. credit rating.”
