That was Cher, being modest about her role in the hugely anticipated "Burlesque" movie. Cher is always modest.
I managed to scrape this little bit of info from the one-and-only Cher in the most nefarious way. While dining out with Liz Rosenberg, who reps the eternal star, Liz’s cell phone rang. She looked at it and said, "It’s Cher." And before anybody could say "It’s none of your business," I plucked the phone from Liz’s hand and said, "Hi, Cher, this is the other big Liz in your life!"
The above is from Liz Smith's column at wowOwow. At one point (after my excerpt), Cher jokes that Liz Smith is Hedda and trying to make trouble and Liz goes on to muse (in writing, not to Cher) that Cher might have encountered Hedda in her career. So I asked C.I. Hedda attacked and savaged Cher back during the Sonny & Cher days including when Sonny & Cher performed at a party for Jackie O. (Jackie O. had requested them. I had no idea. C.I. gave me all the scoop.) Hedda mocked Sonny's hair especially. She referred to them as unwashed and more. She used terms like "dogs" and "going to the dogs."
Liz's column also mentions Jody Watley (whom C.I. loves -- C.I. thinks the world of Jody) who will be on tour with . . . her old group Shalamar ("Dancing In The Sheets," etc.). I liked Jody back in the day with "Looking For A New Love," "Friends," "Real Love," etc. The hits. But she really is more talented than that which I only know from being on the road with C.I. speaking out against the Iraq War. C.I. will usually have some Jody Watley and it's gotten so I know all of Jody's stuff ("Most Of All" has become a favorite from Jody's early period) and she truly is a dance artist. Her 90s work and in the last decade was adventurous, sophisticated and so f-ing strong. (I've met Jody once when I tagged along to some event with C.I. and she introduced me to Jody. She looks just like her album covers. Only more glamorous.)
And Sarah McLachlan. I have news for Texas community members. You were upset that Lilith Fair's Dallas and Houston dates got cancelled? Sarah's solo tour kicks off November 1st. Guess where at? Dallas. November 2nd, she'll go to Houston, November 3rd to Austin. Then it's out of Texas for Birmingham, Alabama (November 5th), Biloxi, Mississippi (November 6th), Nashville on November 8th, Ohio for Columbus (November 9th) and Cincinnati(November 10th).
Closing with C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
