Brandy e-mailed asking me, "Who would I have voted for?" I saw the question in the heading and clicked on it wondering what it was?
Her question was about this year's Best Actress nominees for comedy at this year's Emmy awards.
The nominees were Melissa McCarthy (Molly & Mike), Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), Martha Plimpton (Raising Hope), Laura Linney (The Big C), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie) and Tina Fey (30 Rock).
Melissa McCarthy won and I'm sure she deserved it. I've seen a few scenes from her show and she was the only thing I liked about it (oh, Mike's mother was funny in one scene). I would never vote for Tina Fey because she can't act. Laura and Edie can but they should have been nominated in dramas. I see Amy and Martha's shows all the time.
Had I been voting, as much as I love Amy, I would have voted for Martha Plimpton. She really blows me away. We're on the road during the week and either we're in hotel, or at one of C.I.'s friends or at C.I.'s place in DC. So I'm not usually planning to watch TV. Melissa McCarthy is funny and I'm sure if I watched her entire show, I'd enjoy it. But in terms of being tired and flipping on the TV, Amy can draw me in and make me watch the showl show with her silly. But Martha does more than that. And she's got a difficult character to play.
So if I had voted, Martha Plimpton would have gotten my vote.
