Isaiah's The World Today Just Nuts "I Want Four More Years" went up yesterday and is hilarious. Katy Perry: Part of Me was released last Friday and is a bomb.
If you missed it,t he film barely made it to number 8 of the weekend's top ten and brought in a dismal $7.2 million tickets for the weekend. Paul Cantor's "Katy Perry's 'Part Of Me' Bombed At The Box Office This Weekend" notes:
According to Box Office Mojo, the film only grossed $7,150,000 in its opening weekend at the box office domestically. And while it earned another $2.3 million internationally, for a total gross of $10,250,00, it's hard not to consider the film something of a bomb. Also, it's hard not to make comparisons between her opening weekend and that of films from other notable pop stars.
Upon release, Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never" opened with $29.5 million and The Jonas Brothers' "The 3D Concert Experience" opened with $12.5 million.
Pop music is nothing but 'now.' And Katy's ambition and ego means she's a bomb. That's where she is 'now.' 'Now' she's yesterday. And it's going to be really hard to overcome that. Few do when a vanity film crashes. Most of the time, it's the end of the chart run.
So there's a chance we won't hear her 20-tracked vocal which -- even punched in -- lacks power and still isn't in tune.
