From last night, that's Isaiah's The World Today Just Nuts "The Hollow Man" which addresses how Stephen Harper betrayed the beliefs of Canada and war resister Kim Rivera who is now being held in a military jail at Fort Hood now because Harper's an ass.
It's supposed to now be official. San Francisco Chronicle reports that Taylor Swift has signed to play Joni Mitchell in Girls Like Us. I wrote about this last week and noted that I was really curious who would play Carly Simon in the film?
I think the film succeeds or fails based on those two performances.
Most people do not have a visual. That's because Carol was behind the scenes for the early years when she wrote songs but did not record albums. That's also because once she became a singing star, she really didn't do interviews. Is there a cover of Carole from Rolling Stone? I don't think so. (There may be. I can picture Joni covers from the 70s in my head. And Carly had more RS covers than anyone during that time, probably five.)
People have an 'image' of Carole from Tapestry. They really don't know her life or her looks. Carly and Joni both have very strong visuals.
That was Carole's choice, not to do press. So people watching the movie will say, "Oh, that does/doesn't look like Joni/Carly" much more than they will say it about the actress who plays Carole. In fact, she's probably got a stronger visual today -- in her sixties and seventies -- than she ever did.
