I don't have anything against Rush.
As far as I'm concerned, they belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. When I wrote about it on Monday, I focused on Randy Newman as unworthy. I did that because I don't think he is worthy.
But I didn't attack Rush because I do think they are.
That clears up one e-mail.
Brenda wanted to know what year is this covering?
Good question. It's 2012 and it's 25 years (the 'rule') so that would be 1987.
So the person or group had to put out a first recording no later than 1987. Anything after that, isn't supposed to be included yet.
The year they're doing right now?
Janet Jackson was huge.
Where is she?
The Beastie Boys are in the Hall but Janet's not?
You don't find that troubling.
"Surely," Kip started his e-mail, "Roberta Flack and Linda Ronstadt are in the Hall of R&R."
They belong in there but they've not been inducted. Very few women have.
I think the Hall is a joke and that Jann Wenner's been able to use his hatred of women to keep a ton of female artists out.
