I plan to do at least two reviews over the long weekend. Don't be surprised if I postpone them both until Monday, you know how I procrastinate.
I'd love to do three or four but that may be shooting too high.
One will be about music you all know. The other will be a new album. (The first is a collection, a best-of.)
Now for tonight. C.I. had surgery Tuesday and she's maintained her regular schedule except for not snapshot on Tuesday. She's attended all the hearing she had scheduled, she's spoken at all events that were scheduled (except for Tuesday) and she's done her usual strong commentaries and reporting at The Common Ills. However, she said she just wasn't up to flying back home this weekend (California) so we started planning to stay here mid-week and Friday was a really great party.
During the party, a number of things were discussed by people of the left and left-of-center. One of which was Grace Lee Boggs.
If C.I. walked through or by, the conversation changed because she knows and likes Grace. But she's not care that I'm blogging about this and she would have just rolled her eyes if she'd heard what so many were talking about.
Grace Lee Boggs dedicated her life to peace. As did her late husband Jimmy Boggs. And they formed the Boggs Peace Center.
Which may as well close shop now.
It's completely useless.
And people are laughing about Grace and what a fool she's made of herself.
Grace saw bi-racial Barack as "Black" and supported him for that reason only. (Some feel she confused him with her late husband.) And she could have just been wrong -- clearly Barack was no person of peace. But to just be wrong, she'd have to admit her mistake and call him out.
Instead, the Boggs Peace Center -- as evidenced by their columns by Grace and her friend -- spend all their time writing and focusing on everything but . . . you guessed it, war!
A peace center that can't call out war.
After I heard all the one-liners (C.I. always runs with a witty crowd), I went off to listen to music (to gear up for my reviews) with some other people (including Rebecca) and then I started pulling up Grace and her friend's columns. After reading six months of them, I had to agree that Grace had nothing to say about war.
It truly is sad and pathetic and Grace Lee Boggs should probably just shut down the Boggs Center at this point. There's no reason for it to exist and she's really got nothing to say about peace. She muttered a half-hearted stand against the assassination of bin Laden but she couldn't bring herself to call out Barack even then. Apparently that assassination was ordered by . . . itself.
What a sorry end for a one-time truth teller.
Thing is, Grace Lee Boggs is no dummy. So in her heart of heart, she knows she's now a pathetic sell-out. At her age, that's baggage she really can't afford to carry around.
Closing with C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
