I love Isaiah's THE WORLD TODAY JUST NUTS "Dumb Bondi Jokes" and it went up tonight. Also new? Doja Cat's "Jealous Type."
Another musician is in the news, the very talented Little Nas X who is apparently struggling. Tabby Wilson (BBC NEWS) reports:
Award-winning rapper Lil Nas X has been arrested after an altercation with police in Los Angeles, authorities have confirmed.
Police were called to Ventura Boulevard at 05:30 (12:30 GMT) on Thursday after reports of a man walking down the street in his underwear, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said.
After officers arrived at the scene, LAPD allege the Old Town Road singer "charged" at them and was placed under arrest on suspicion of battery.
He was then taken to hospital for treatment for a possible overdose, police spokesman Charles Miller said. The BBC has reached out to his representatives for comment.
Unverified video of the star on Thursday morning was published by TMZ, which featured the singer dancing in the street in just his underwear and cowboy boots, and inviting people passing by to "come to the party".
The rapper is expected to release his much-anticipated second studio album Dreamboy later this year, teasing his new music on Instagram ahead of the drop.
Born Montero Lamar Hill, Lil Nas X became the first openly gay man to receive a Country Music Association award, after he won with Old Town Road in 2019.
The song also won two Grammys and broke the record for the longest-running number one song on the Billboard Hot 100, after 17 weeks at the top of the charts.
Ethan Millman (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER) adds:
Lil Nas X will be jailed through the weekend following his arrest early Thursday morning, a representative for the Los Angeles Police Department confirms to The Hollywood Reporter, after the rapper was caught on camera roaming the streets in Studio City, nearly naked and seemingly delirious.
The LAPD says that Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Hill, will be jailed until Monday, citing “charge 69 (a) PC” a penal code for resisting or obstructing an officer. “The arrestee (Hill) cannot be cited out,” the LAPD said in an email. “It is mandatory that he appear before a judge before he is released. This will happen on Monday.”
I don't understand why a Thursday arrest -- for the equivalent of public intoxification -- requires him to remain in jail for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday? And f**k you, Millman, in his underwear and boots doesn't need to be billed in 2025 as "nearly naked." That's basically what Madonna made stage clothing in the 80s and has remained that for many performers ever since.
Kelly Coffey-Behrens (BLAST) notes:
Lil Nas X’s loved ones are reportedly preparing to intervene following the rapper’s shocking public meltdown in Los Angeles early Thursday morning. The 26-year-old “Old Town Road” star, born Montero Lamar Hill, was arrested for battery on a police officer after he was spotted wandering down the middle of a street wearing nothing but white underwear and cowboy boots. Witnesses say Lil Nas X allegedly charged at officers early in the morning before being taken to a hospital for a possible overdose and later placed under arrest.
[. . .]
That same source added that his family is determined to step in before things spiral further. “His family wants to support him, but they’re very worried he’s being exploited," they claimed, adding that they are planning on hosting an intervention.
The troubling arrest comes just months after Lil Nas X admitted he had been struggling behind the scenes. Back in February, the musician shared a candid video where he described himself as “flaky” and “all over the place,” acknowledging that the past few years had taken a serious toll.
“These last few years were pretty difficult for me,” he confessed in the clip, later re-shared by fans on X. “I’m just now, like, arriving to this place of feeling confidence in myself and what I’m doing. And I’m trying to make sure I put intention towards my music and my vision and the creativity of it all.”
His struggles carried over into April, when he revealed to followers that he had been hospitalized after suddenly losing “control of the right side” of his face. “It’s like, what the f-ck, bro? I can’t even laugh right, bro,” he said in the video, appearing shaken. Though he later assured fans his condition was improving, he admitted his right eye was still “stubborn” and that smiling remained difficult.
I hope he finds some peace and I do not understand him being held in jail.
Life is too short. Let's turn to the legendary Heart -- band of Ann and Nancy Wilson. Craig Rosen (PARADE) reports:
Heart singer Ann Wilson is mourning the loss of guitarist Michael Fisher, a founding member of the Seattle hard rock band, who also had a relationship with the older Wilson sister early in the band’s career.
Michael Fisher’s death was announced in a Facebook post on Aug. 19 by his brother Roger, who was also a founding member of the band that was initially known as Army when it was formed in 1967 in Seattle by bassist Steve Fossen and the Fisher brothers. Ann Wilson joined the band, later renamed Heart, in 1970, followed by her sister, singer-guitarist Nancy Wilson in 1974.
Romance soon blossomed within the band, with Ann dating Mike, and Roger hooking up with Nancy. Roger revealed in a 2018 video interview that the foursome lived together in an A-frame cabin in Point Roberts, Wash., in which he recalled the beginnings of the early Heart hit “Crazy on You.”
The fact they had a relationship that extended beyond being bandmates explains the intimacy expressed in Ann Wilson’s tribute to Michael Fisher, which she shared on social media on Aug. 20.
Ann shared a photo with Michael on social media.
She captioned the photo, "Michael lived life fully and loved
completely. Now he is taking his long journey to the next incarnation he
always believed would come.
He was a beautiful human…a profound soul….a divine spirit. Bon voyage, my old love."
Now let's go to the legendary Beach Boys. They were a pivotal band in the sixties. As bandmates and vocalists, Al Jardine, Wilson brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl, and egomaniac Mike Love were equals and loved. But Brian was -- and emerged as -- the genius. Not just of the band, but one of the geniuses in sixties popular music. Their classic songs were many -- "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "Good Vibrations," "In My Room," "I Get Around," "Help Me, Rhonda," "God Only Knows," "Don't Worry Baby," "Sloop John B" and "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times." The 60s were a huge time for wonderful music and the Beatles absolutely ruled the decade but the Beach Boys had many hits and were second only to Diana Ross & the Supremes when it came to American artists making the charts. (And Diana Ross & the Supremes were the only ones to truly rival the British Beatles on the American charts.)
Brian passed away back in June, Trina noted it in "Shrimp Salad Rolls in the Kitchen" and his death was kind of shocking -- call it the death of the American teenager because he and Diana and a few other select artists really spoke to young people in the sixties. All the Wilson brothers have now passed away and the original band members left with us today are Al Jardine and Mike Love. Will Simpson (MUSIC RADAR) notes:
The two remaining founder members of the Beach Boys seem to have fallen out again. This time over what went on at the funeral of Brian Wilson last month.
Al Jardine and Mike Love both gave speeches honouring Wilson, their late bandmate and visionary songwriter. But Jardine has taken umbrage at what Love said in his, accusing him of “serious megalomania”.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Jardine said: “Mike wanted everybody to know that he wrote every single word of Good Vibrations. I didn’t feel the compassion, let’s put it that way.
"Mike’s got some serious megalomania problems.
“I was focusing on Brian, and Mike was more focused on Mike,” he added. “I think that is what it boils down to.”
And that's how it's always been. Mike Love's always been jealous of Brian and bitter that he didn't have what Brian had. This is the man, remember, who worked overtime in the sixties to hide his baldness. Age came for him quick. And he's always been an embarrassment -- practically dry humping James Watt in the 80s -- and if you're asking "James who?" consider yourself fortunate. Joey Nolfi (ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY) notes:
Prior to his death, Wilson spoke out about Love (who's also Wilson's cousin) and the touring edition of the band's decision to perform at a 2020 fundraiser for Donald Trump campaign.
"We have absolutely nothing to do with the Trump benefit today in Newport Beach. Zero," a representative for Wilson and Jardine said in a statement to Variety at the time. "We didn't even know about it and were very surprised to read about it in the Los Angeles Times."
Wilson previously spoke out against Love upon objecting to the band's planned performance at a Safari Club International event in Reno, Nev.
"This organization supports trophy hunting, which both Al [Jardine] and I are emphatically opposed to," Wilson said on social media, including posts on Facebook and X (then Twitter). "There's nothing we can do personally to stop the show, so please join us in signing the petition."
Closing with C.I.'s "The Snapshot:"
Friday, August 22, 2025. Chump's destruction of the economy continues with attacks on tourism, groceries and US auto yet he still manages to make time to also try to destroy veterans. He himself continues to be destroyed by the Epstein scandal.
Today, the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) announced plans to no longer allow veterans to access abortion care or counseling through the VA health system, specifically including in instances of rape, incest, or to save the health of the pregnant person. While veterans were previously allowed to access abortion care in specific circumstances, this policy eliminates those exceptions apart from a narrow exception to save the life of a pregnant veteran. These kinds of exceptions to save a person’s life often don’t work in reality.
This proposed rule change will apply to veterans receiving care through the VA living in all 50 states, including the 14 states with constitutional protections for abortion rights. This new policy would be one of the strictest abortion bans in the country, and for veterans living in the 12 states that ban abortion, it would further close off what may be their only opportunity to access urgently needed abortion care.
As a proposed rule, the policy will be open for public comment for 30 days, after which the administration will finalize the rule. Throughout this next month, the public — including health experts and veterans — can provide feedback on how this policy will endanger the health and lives of veterans.
“After veterans put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms, the Trump administration is trying to rob them of their own freedoms and putting their health at risk,” said Nancy Northup, President and CEO at the Center for Reproductive Rights. “This administration is sending a clear message to veterans—that their health and dignity aren’t worth defending. To devalue veterans in this way and take away life-changing health care would be unconscionable. This shows you just how extreme this administration’s anti-abortion stance is—they would rather a veteran suffer severely than receive an abortion.”
This rule change was ushered through by the White House Office of Management & Budget Director Russell Vought and Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins—both adamantly anti-abortion—with Vought even opposing abortion if it is needed to save the life of a pregnant person. This marks the first major regulatory action by this administration to proactively take away abortion rights from a group of people nationwide, and a foreboding encroachment into states where abortion rights are protected.
Women are currently the fastest growing population of veterans, and removing these exceptions to the VA’s strict abortion ban will be devastating for pregnant veterans who need access to this care. More than two million women veterans live in the U.S. today, and more than 400,000 women veterans are estimated to live in states with total abortion bans or severe restrictions, meaning they may not be able to access abortion care—in case of emergency care or otherwise—at all. There are also thousands of transgender men as well as non-binary veterans who might need abortion care. Additionally, over 700,000 family members of veterans get their care from the VA.
The removal of the health, rape, and incest exceptions are particularly dangerous given the high rates of sexual assault in the military. One in three women veterans experienced military sexual trauma (MST), including sexual assault, during their military service, and research indicates that nearly 40% of homeless women veterans experienced MST while in the service. Many veterans also experience severe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including from experiences related to sexual assault, and an unplanned pregnancy may exacerbate their PTSD and require abortion access to preserve their health or life. Last year, enrollment of women veterans in VA health care increased in every state, and four of the six most concentrated states were Texas, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina—all states with severe abortion bans.
In 2022, immediately after the Dobbs decision overturned federal abortion protections under Roe v. Wade, the Biden-Harris Administration carved out exceptions to the VA’s complete abortion ban in certain situations. That rule also allowed VA clinicians to discuss abortion options or referrals with patients for the first time, a conversation that will be prohibited if the rule is finalized.
Pregnancy complications are not uncommon and it’s critical that everyone, regardless of pregnancy intentions or circumstances, be able to access the full range of reproductive health care services including abortion. Each year in the United States, about 700 people die during pregnancy or in the year after, and another 50,000 people each year have unexpected outcomes of labor and delivery with serious short- or long-term health consequences.

Bone spurs claimed this week to be a war hero -- see Marcia's "Chump should be charged with stolen valor" -- he's not. He never served. So he lies to promote himself and build himself up but the reality is he has no respect for those who have served in the military.
When you make a promise, you honor that promise. I've said this over and over here every year that we've been online -- almost 21 years now -- you don't screw around with veterans benefits. You have made a promise to them and you damn well better honor it.
Donald doesn't believe that. He not only kicked out trans members, he wants to destroy their pensions. That's what he's doing. He's telling women that they don't have reproductive care -- Translations, "Go fight for freedom but grasp that you don't have reproductive freedom." His horrendous DOGE has destroyed jobs for so many veterans. There is no veterans issue you can point to where he hasn't harmed them. How about the VA? MSNBC from a little over a week ago.
The government made promises and it is failing to deliver because of Donald Chump. This isn't an accident, it is planned. He has planned to betray veterans and he has done so.
He is a failure and a liar. And he has broken one of the core promises our government has with our veterans. There is no excuse for that.
We have repeatedly called out various politicians (Wig hatted Corrine Brown, Jim Webb, go down the list -- and the two named are both Democrats) over the years for their betrayals of veterans but I don't think anyone we've ever called out has done as much damage -- and intentionally done as much damage -- as Donald Chump.
Tourism from Canada has had the sharpest decline — Canadian visits in May decreased by 38% by car and 24% by air compared to the same month in 2024, according to the U.S. National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO). Travel from Western Europe is also declining, falling nearly 5% in 2025.
“While other nations are rolling out the welcome mat, the U.S. government is putting up the ‘closed’ sign,” said Julia Simpson, president and CEO of WTTC.
And the price tag is staggering. In total, this decrease in tourism could cost the United States an estimated $29 billion, and experts warn that number could grow if policies don’t change.
Food represents a large and visible share of household spending, and high grocery bills influence public perceptions of the economy and the administration's performance.
A mid-2025 poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that a majority of Americans reported stress over grocery costs, and retailers have reported shoppers shifting purchases toward cheaper brands and smaller sizes. Roughly 53 percent of respondents said grocery costs were a "major" stressor.
Trump campaigned on promises of lowering grocery costs, but federal forecasts and private trackers showed only modest easing overall and price gains in several food staples.
The USDA Economic Research Service reported that the all-food Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.3 percent from May to June and was 3 percent higher than June 2024.
It also projected overall food prices would rise 2.9 percent this year and 2.7 percent in 2026.
Last week, Ben Berkowitz and Alex Fitzpatrick (AXIOS) noted:
Zoom in: A 38.9% increase in prices for fresh and dry vegetables from June to July was the major driver of a higher index for "final demand goods" (things that are done and ready to be sold to a consumer, as opposed to things that go into a later production process).
- That was the biggest month-on-month increase for fresh vegetables since March 2022.
Stunning stat: Per Bureau of Labor Statistics data, it's also the largest monthly increase ever recorded in a summer month (June-August), in figures that go back to 1947.
Let's note this MSNBC video.
We noted two snapshots ago. When we noted it, we noted that it had nearly half a million streams. It's now at 1.1 million. Here's a report Ari did yesterday.
And here's a discussion on the expected release (later today) of some Epstein files.
